Paul Herman was born and raised in Minneapolis, MN. He attended the University of Minnesota both for college and medical school. Paul received his post-graduate training at The Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York and UCSF in San Francisco. Paul practiced diagnostic radiology at St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood, CA for 29 years. He is married to Marcia Herman, a political activist and former businesswoman. They have one son, Andrew Herman, an attorney in Washington, DC.

Member of Sinai Temple since 1979, Paul served multiple terms over many years as a member of the Board of Directors, first term beginning in 1982. He was the Vice President of Ritual and Chair of the Ritual Committee in the mid-to-late 1990s. Paul is currently Co-Chair of the Board of Governors and Chair of the Art and Décor Committee, as well as curator of art exhibits in Merage Gallery. He is a current board member of the Men’s Club and serves or has served on multiple other committees. He frequently chants/leads during High Holiday services.
