My Silver lining is letting my hair grow out to SILVER. When everything closed down back in March, I felt that growing my hair out was symbolic of empathizing with everyone during the pandemic. I wanted to be proud of wearing a mask and social distancing. I want to be a big part of keeping this pandemic at bay. As many Jews pick their sect, I wanted to pick “Being COVID-safe,” which to me means staying safe for everyone’s sake. These last months have been about helping neighbors, staying in touch with friends and family, and creating a special program to reach out to Holocaust Survivors. Even though I am wearing a mask, I let people know I am smiling and friendly while walking my dog. We are in this together and need to cooperate with each other. We have to be brave, positive, and kind, and this is what I like to instill in my students.
