Howard Kaplan

General Manager, Mount Sinai Memorial Parks and Mortuaries

Howard Kaplan was born in Boyle Heights and grew up three blocks from the entrance to Griffith Park in Los Feliz. At the time, he could not have imagined that one day he would serve as General Manager of Mount Sinai Memorial Parks and Mortuaries, the largest Jewish cemetery organization in California, located just minutes from his childhood home.

Howard joined Mount Sinai as its General Manager on February 1, 2018. Before joining Mount Sinai, Howard served as Executive Director of Wilshire Boulevard Temple for 13 years. Prior to becoming Executive Director he spent ten years as Director of the Wilshire Boulevard Temple Camps and Conference Center and also held key positions at Temple Aliyah and the Brandeis Bardin Institute.

As a leader who has dedicated his career to working closely with clergy, staff, lay leaders and members of the community, Howard may be new to the funeral industry, but he brings a with him a solid foundation to ensure Mount Sinai’s successful future. He states, “I’ve spent my career focused on people and now consider it a great honor to work for an organization whose mission is to provide assistance families during their times of need.”

Howard earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Outdoor Education and Wilderness Studies from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Southern California, Marshall School of Business. He has been married for 34 years and is happy to say that his two boys are “out of the house and off the payroll.” Son Matthew lives in Chicago and Ari in Los Angeles. In his spare time he and wife Donna love to hike, go to movies, and aspire to be grandparents.
