KOBI ALMOG

My silver lining relative to teaching during these challenging times of a global pandemic is the love, compassion, strength, commitment, and faith our community exemplifies as we continue to come together to educate, learn, pray, and celebrate life.  The internet—specifically, Zoom—has been a blessed vehicle in such a profound way, a holy way, to keep us united in prayer and interconnected to one another in all the ways that are important to thrive as one Jewish family, be it locally, in our beloved Israel, and throughout the world.  May the new year usher in boundless blessings to us all.

RUSSELL COHEN

My name is Russell Cohen, and this is my third year teaching 5th Grade at Sinai Temple.  A year that was very important to me was 2008.  This was the year of my Bar Mitzvah, when I deepened my connection to Judaism and studied hard to learn much of the service and more about the religion in general.  This was also the year of my first trip to Israel, which was an important and exciting experience, as I got to see so many places that I had only previously heard about in Hebrew School.  I also finished creating my first…

This year I am coming in with more knowledge and experience, and I am excited to build upon what I started last year.  That’s why my license plate is MOREH 20- I am the upgraded 2.0 version of what I was last year.

LEORA JAVAHERI-FAR

My name is Leora Javaheri-far and my story begins in Iran. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to live in Israel for a few years before moving to the United States. I am so grateful to be a part of the Saini Temple family and community. The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the world in a way that no one thought possible. As an educator, the pandemic has helped me find new connections with my students, as well as better methods to get them involved in learning. These times I think have similarities to the story of Yetziat Mitzrayim, when…

If Only…

I was in line for frozen yogurt last night minding my own business as the customer in front of me started to gossip and use inappropriate language. She noticed the kippah on my head, and said out loud, “I shouldn’t be speaking like this!!!” After I told her I was a Rabbi, the conversation switched to theology. She had the urge to tell me that four years ago, her father passed away suddenly. She looked at me as I was about to order and said, “Rabbi, you really believe in God when you hear things like this?” This week we started…
