SUMMARY:Understanding the Israeli Political Crisis
DESCRIPTION:Throughout COVID\, wars\, and circles of violence\, and amidst one of the worst geopolitical crises the world has faced for decades\, Israel fails – times and again – in maintaining political stability. In this session\, we’ll discuss the pulling forces that are tearing Israeli society apart and are reflected in its current political crisis: in Judaism – conservativism vs. liberalism\, and in Israeliness – inclusiveness vs. exclusiveness. \nDr. Masua Sagiv is Scholar in Residence of the Shalom Hartman Institute based in the San Francisco Bay Area and the Koret Visiting Assistant Professor of Jewish and Israel Studies at U.C. Berkeley. She was most recently the Academic Director of the Menomadin Center for Jewish and Democratic Law at Bar-Ilan University and a research fellow at the Kogod Research Center of the Shalom Hartman Institute. \nMasua earned her LL.B. in Law and Political Science (magna cum laude) from Bar-Ilan University\, her LL.M. (with honors) from Columbia University School of Law\, and her Ph.D. in law from Tel-Aviv University. Her research areas focus on the intersection between law\, religion\, gender and state\, as well as law and social change and Jewish peoplehood. \nThis is an in-person event. It will not be recorded or broadcast. \nClick HERE to register.
