Israel, the Gaza War, and the Blood Libel of “Medicide” with Professor Leslie Johns

Throughout the Gaza War, critics have condemned Israel for committing attacks on health care. Some argue that Israel has committed “medicide,” and violated international law through systemic attacks on hospitals and physicians. These arguments are based on flawed data supplied by the Gaza Health Ministry to the World Health Organization (WHO), which is in turn disseminated by the United Nations (UN). Prof. Johns will discuss her ongoing research about bias and inaccuracies in WHO and UN reporting on health care during armed conflict. She will share how these processes lead to false claims that Israel has violated international law.

Prof. Leslie Johns is a professor of political science and law at UCLA. Her book, Politics and International Law: Making, Breaking, and Upholding Global Rules, is taught at universities worldwide. She is a member of The Hague Initiative on International Cooperation.
