Men’s Club Book Club: Reaching Across the Divide

July 14, 2020 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Event Category:

Join your Sinai Temple friends for our new, virtual book club! We will focus on the theme “Reaching across the divide,” i.e., addressing divisions within our society along political, gender, religious, sectarian, cultural, and other dimensions. This broad topic covers many critical social fractures and highlights the importance of bringing about cohesion and healing in society. After all, cohesion and healing are what community is all about and something that we cherish at Sinai Temple! To allow meaningful participation by everyone, we will limit book club to 30 people. Open to Sinai Temple and Men’s Club members.

This month’s book is a provocative New York Times bestseller where Paul Krugman, today’s most widely read economist and Noble Prize laureate, examines the past eighty years of American history, from the reforms that tamed the harsh inequality of the Gilded Age and the 1920s to the unraveling of that achievement and the reemergence of immense economic and political inequality. Seeking to understand both what happened to middle-class America and what it will take to achieve a “new New Deal,” Krugman has created his finest book to date, a stimulating manifesto offering a defense of liberalism and a call for Americans to take control of their economic destiny.
