Author and award winning filmmaker Henry Schipper joins Rabbi Sherman to discuss his book, "The Ball Dreams of the Sky," a book of baseball poetry. Schipper, the child of Holocaust survivors, wrote these poems to process his complex Jewish-American experience in Detroit in the 1960's. As baseball season is underway, this is a beautiful story of the power of the game.

This week, Judaism and sports go hand in hand, as three of the four coaches in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four are Jewish.

The top team, the Auburn Tigers, is Coached by Bruce Pearl. He also coached the US Men’s team in the 2009 Maccabiah games and took his Auburn basketball team to Israel with Athletes For Israel in 2023. This past weekend, in a press conference, he called for the release of the hostages held by Hamas and invited the family of Edan Alexander to the game.

Rabbi Sherman had the opportunity to interview Coach Pearl on the Rabbi On The Sidelines podcast, which will air on JBS TV tonight. He spoke about his Jewish journey, his connection to Israel, and his courage to speak up to millions watching sports.
