Rabbi Emeritus Zvi Dershowitz

Rabbi Emeritus Zvi Dershowitz

IN-MEMORANDUM

Rabbi Dershowitz was an integral part of Sinai Temple for 50 years and touched the lives of many congregants through life cycle events, both happy and sad, with sermons at Shabbat services, High Holy Day services, and helping children with their B’nai Mitzvah d’rashot. Together with his beloved Tova, z’l, he created a warm community to welcome everyone.  He was instrumental in welcoming to Sinai a large number of Persian Jews who fled the Iranian regime in 1979 and settled in Los Angeles.  Many of them are still part of our community.  He and Tova traveled to the Soviet Union during the 1980’s and met with refuseniks and brought them items of Judaica so they could keep their Judaism alive.  Rabbi Dershowitz regularly attended Shabbat services at Sinai until a couple of weeks before he passed.

Many people have fond memories of Rabbi Dershowitz, and much will be said and written about him.  May we learn from his example, and may his memory be a blessing.
