Rabbi Laurence Scheindlin

Headmaster Emeritus, Sinai Akiba Academy

Since bringing to a conclusion his 35 year tenure as headmaster of Sinai Akiba Academy in 2012, Larry Scheindlin has been consulting with day schools around the country on school governance, leadership and management, teacher coaching and evaluation, and spirituality and the teaching of prayer.

Under his leadership Sinai Akiba Academy grew from 170 to 700 students, added a middle school and engaged in major expansions and building renovations. He guided the school in developing an activities-based approach to instruction, a comprehensive learning support program and a dynamic development program, while infusing in the faculty a culture of professional growth.

He has published numerous articles and taught courses and workshops on emotions in education, spirituality and the teaching of prayer as well as various aspects of school leadership.

He has served on the faculty of the Rhea Hirsch School of Education at Hebrew Union College and as president of the Schechter Day School Network. He is a recipient of the Milken Outstanding Jewish Educator Award.
