Interim Head of School, Sinai Akiba Academy

Betty Winn is thrilled to be back at Sinai Akiba Academy in the role of Interim Head of School for the 2019-2020 school year. Betty and her husband Ross were parents at the school when their daughter was a student. Now she is back not only as an administrator, but she is also the proud grandmother of a Sinai Akiba Academy ECC student.

For the past 40 years, Betty has worked in the educational field holding a variety of leadership positions both within the Jewish community and independent school world. She retired from headship in 2013 after serving as the Head of School for a decade (2003-2013) at Abraham Joshua Heschel Day School in Northridge, CA and working as a Head of School at two independent secular schools. She was a coach for Prizmah’s HOS PEP program from 2013-2018 and was the Director of Leadership Initiatives at RAVSAK from 2013-2015. Betty served as BJE’s Director for the Center for Excellence in Early Childhood and Day School Education in Los Angeles from 2015-2018 and continues to consultant for them. In addition to these leadership roles, Betty has worked as a teacher, curriculum coordinator, director of admission, mentor teacher, accreditation chair and educational consultant. Betty has taught curriculum classes at UCLA extension and facilitated numerous professional development workshops in the areas of leadership, fundraising and board governance and development.

Betty earned her BA in History at UCLA and her Masters in Educational Administration at Pepperdine University.  Betty has served on a number of non-profit school and philanthropic boards including the Buckley School, Sinai Akiba Committee, Camp Ronald McDonald, LA Family Housing, and Wilshire Boulevard Temple Camps.
