Lay Leadership

Joseph Gabbaian

Joseph Gabbaian

Sinai Temple has been like a second home to Joseph and his family for over 20 years. Joseph became involved in lay leadership at Sinai Temple as a member of the Executive Committee of Sinai Temple Men’s Club, and from 2004 through 2006 he served as President of the Men’s Club, which entitled him to a seat on the temple’s Board of Directors. The next year Joseph was elected to the board directly, and since then he has been an active member of the board and has served on several committees, including Budget, Membership, Contracts, House and Grounds, Properties, Land Use and Barad Hall. In 2011, then Sinai Temple President Eric Diamond appointed Joseph to be the Co-Chair of the Budget Committee along with Alan Grushcow (z”l).

While living in Denver and on a trip to Los Angeles in 1981, Joseph met his future wife Freda, and in March 1983 they were married in Denver. They have two children. Their daughter Lauren is a practicing attorney in Los Angeles, and their son Justin is a student at Santa Monica College.

Joseph has been in the commercial real estate industry, first in Denver, and since 1989 in Los Angeles, where he started with Grubb & Ellis, and since 2012 as a principal with the Southern California office of Avison Young.
