ALYSSA ROSENBAUM

6TH GRADE TEACHER

My name is Alyssa Rosenbaum, and I am entering my third year of teaching 6th grade and Trope at Sinai Temple Religious School! A very important day in my calendar will be May 31st, 2021, when I anticipate being ordained as a “Hazzan and Teacher in Israel” with a Master’s Degree in Jewish Sacred Music from my school, the Academy for Jewish Religion, California. I am currently in my fourth year of cantorial school. It is at once exciting to see a finish line in sight for becoming a cantor, as I have worked hard toward this goal the last few years, and yet also bittersweet because I will miss the close-knit community I have built around myself throughout my time at school. Becoming a cantor is a significant influence on my perspective when it comes to Judaism and teaching religious school. Music/prayers sung during Shabbat services was the gateway through which I first developed my sense of Jewish identity growing up. I am also very passionate about Jewish history and have made it a personal mission to visit Jewish sites whenever I travel. One of my central aims as a teacher is to breathe new life into our ancient texts through exploring music, Hebrew, history, and our own worldviews. I look forward to a wonderful year of learning ahead!
