6TH GRADE TEACHING ASSISTANT
Hello! My name is Avishai Shamtoub and I am going into my third year of teaching the 6th grade at Sinai Religious School. I would say a part of my life had changed on June 20th, 2016 (14th of Sivan, 5776), which was my first day being a counselor at a Jewish sleep away camp. I didn’t know it yet, but my life had changed from that day. When I was a child, I didn’t get the chance to go to a sleep away camp, so I was unsure of what I would get into coming my first time as a counselor. However, having the opportunity to care for a group of about 8 children day and night at the age of 17, although sounds a bit frightening, gave me so many valuable life lessons that I will keep with me forever. It had even lead me to pursue the opportunity I was given to work here at Sinai. Working at the camp really opened my eyes and inspired me to go after anything I set my mind to and I hope my story can inspire many children and teenagers to do the same.
