CANTOR MARCUS FELDMAN
Recognized as one of “The Top Five Best New Voices in Jewish Music” by The Forward, Marcus Feldman is the Senior Cantor of Sinai Temple. His voice has been heard at Dodger Stadium, The Getty Center, and all over the world via his YouTube channel. Training in opera as a tenor, Cantor Feldman graduated from the University of Southern California’s Thorton School of Music and the Marshall School of Business as a Renaissance Scholar in 2007. Ordained as a cantor in 2011 at the Academy for Jewish Religion, California, Cantor Feldman holds a Master’s of Jewish Sacred Music degree from the same institution, where he now serves as a Professor of Cantorial & Liturgical Studies. During his Cantorial studies, Cantor Feldman spent half a year in Jerusalem, Israel, studying Hazzanut with Cantor Naftali Herstik, formerly of the Great Synagogue of Jerusalem, and taking courses at Hebrew University and the Conservative Yeshiva. Upon graduation, Cantor Feldman served as the Assistant Cantor of Stephen Wise Temple from 2011-2012, working alongside his mentors, Cantor Nathan Lam, Rabbi Eli Herscher, and Rabbi Isaiah Zeldin z”l. In 2012, Cantor Feldman was appointed Senior Cantor of Sinai Temple by Rabbi David Wolpe, where they shared the bima for over a decade. At Sinai Temple, Cantor Feldman oversees the music department and the B’nai Mitzvah program. He regularly teaches liturgy, music, cantillation, and countless other topics throughout Sinai’s many departments. He produces and performs in musical programs, lectures, and concerts in partnership with Sinai Temple, the University of California Los Angeles’ Herb Alpert School of Music, and the greater Los Angeles Jewish Community. He has produced numerous professional albums and recordings showcasing the multi-faceted music of Sinai Temple. Cantor Feldman instils the love of Jewish music within the next generation through Sinai Temple’s Youth Choir, the Meshorerim, a group of students from both Sinai Akiba Academy and Sinai Temple’s Religious School, who share their voices on Shabbat mornings, at special programs, and during the High Holy Days. Cantor Feldman lives in Los Angeles with his wife Rachel, son Asher, and three cats.
