My name is Sofie Roofian and this is my first year as a Teacher’s Assistant at Sinai Temple Religious School. The date that stands out to me is Tamuz 10, 5776 because this is the day where I became a Bat Mitzvah and matured into a women. This day marked a turning point because from then on I not only became a more responsible individual, but I learned to be more independent in every aspect of life. For example, I started to do more things around the house, became more organized with school, and really cherished the relationships I had. The number 10 is significant because the main number in it is 1, and on the day of my Bat Mitzvah I became 1 whole and mature individual in my Jewish community. I was the 1 person who was responsible for myself and who had way more obligations than the previous day. I became a changed person for the better and I would not trade that for anything else. All of this simply relates to the concept of independence. Just like the 1 is independent in 10, I became independent on the day of my Bat Mitzvah.
