Daily Minyan


The Daily Minyan at Sinai Temple is an on-going foundation of the community. Twice each day we come together in the beautiful and spiritual Kohn Chapel to join in prayer and song. In addition to our regular minyan of worshipers, we are joined by those in mourning or honoring a yahrzeit to recite the Kaddish. The Daily Minyan is also a sacred space to celebrate ufruf’s, baby namings, and B’nai Mitzvah on Thursday mornings. We invite you to join us in-person or online. No advance registration is required. Jan Zakowski


Jan Zakowski grew up at Sinai Temple. She was Bat Mitzvah’d and confirmed at Sinai. Jan and Phil’s children, Daniel, Sarah and Esther, all attended Sinai Akiba Academy and had their B’nai Mitzvot at Sinai. Jan is a past president of the Temple, and chaired the Sinai Temple Preschool Committee, the Sinai Akiba Academy Committee, and the capital campaign for the new facility. For the last 8 years Jan has assisted Rabbi Wolpe in recruiting the 200-300+ people to participate in the Sinai Delegation to the AIPAC Policy Conference. Kurt Smalberg


Kurt Smalberg is a past president of Sinai Temple and former Faith-Based Director of the Westwood Neighborhood Council.  Retired senior executive from the nonferrous metals and steel recycling industries having served as President/CEO of Pacific Smelting Co.; President, Steel Can Recycling Institute; Chairman, The Zinc Institute; and Exec. VP, National Association of Recycling Industries.  CCNY BChE and NYU MBA degrees.

Brina Rosenbaum


Brina Rosenbaum and her husband Phil z”l have been members of Sinai Temple since 1975. They have two daughters Deborah and Sharon, both of whom were B’nai Mitzvah at Sinai Temple. Brina served on the Board of Directors beginning in 1992 and served on many committees. She served as Sisterhood President from 1990 to 1992 and as President of Sinai Temple from 2003 to 2005.

Milton B. Hyman


Milton B. Hyman is a past president of Sinai Temple. During his presidency (1993-1995), Sinai Temple developed the plans for the extensive additions to our original building and purchased the land in Simi Valley for the new Mount Sinai Memorial Park. Since serving as President, he has also been a member of the Cemetery Management Committee of Sinai Temple. Abner Goldstine


Abner Goldstine and his family have been active members of Sinai Temple since 1969. Abner was initially elected to the Board of Directors in 1973. Since that time, he had the good fortune to spend a number of years as an officer of the synagogue and to participate in a variety of committees. Most importantly, Abner had the honor and privilege to have been elected to serve as President of Sinai Temple from 2001-2003.

Judith Galperson


Judith Galperson and her family have been members of Sinai Temple for many years. Her sons David and Rob were B’nai Mitzvah and Confirmed at Sinai and are graduates of Sinai High. Judith has served on many committees and chaired a number of events as a Sisterhood and Board of Directors Member. She served as Vice President of Education for five years and as Sinai Temple President for two years. Ira Friedman has been a member of Sinai with his family since 1975. Both of his children had their Bar Mitzvahs and Conformations at Sinai. Ira is a partner in the Beverly Hills law firm of Friedman & Friedman with his son. He has been a Certified Family Law specialist for over 40 years. Robert T. (Tom) Flesh was born in Los Angeles to parents who were both Holocaust survivors.  He attended schools in Los Angeles and graduated from the USC School of Business in 1972 and Loyola Law School in 1975.  After graduation from law school, he worked in government and thereafter began a career in real estate acquisition, development and management where he currently serves as CEO and President of Homewood Realty and Community Asset Management Company and serves on the Board of Directors of Thrifty Oil Co and it’s affiliated companies.
