Over 50 families joined us March 2-4 for the 2018 Sinai Temple Shabbaton at Camp Ramah in Ojai, CA. This annual event brings families together from across the Sinai community (religious school, day school, etc.) for a weekend of connection, outdoor activities, music, arts & crafts, and, of course, Judaism. This year, the group was joined by Rabbi Nicole Guzik, Rabbi Erez Sherman, Rabbi Jason Fruithandler, Rabbi Andy Feig and Cantor Lisa Peicott. Each of these clergy members took time out of their busy schedules to connect with our members and lead them on a spiritual journey. For more information…

This past weekend, nearly eighty 5th-7th graders spent a fun-filled weekend at Camp JCA Shalom for Sinai Temple Religious School’s annual Na’aseh Retreat. Despite the clouds and rain, morale was high and students arrived in sunny spirits, ready for an activity-packed weekend of Jewish learning and connection. Students bonded in the cabins, experienced Shabbat dinner, Shabbat service and Havdlalah together, embarked upon a night hike, and enjoyed ruach-filled (spirited) singing. They learned lessons on Shomrei Adama (protecting the earth) and connected to nature. A fan-favorite from the weekend was Robbo, the enthusiastic song leader, and the ultimate highlight was the community bonding…

Sinai is on the road again! This week’s destination- Bird, Marella, Boxer, Wolpert, Nessim, Drooks, Lincenberg & Rhow in Century City! Over 15 members who work in the area joined us for a “Learn & Lunch,” hosted by members and firm partners, Ron Nessim and Sharon Ben-Shahar Mayer. Rabbi Erez Sherman led a spirited discussion around the question, “Is there religion in your office?” The answers were diverse and inspired some amazing dialogue. Most importantly, the mid-day session allowed our members to pause and infuse a bit of faith into the hustle and bustle of their daily lives. Sinai Temple’s “Learn & Lunch”…

On Thursday, March 1, Sinai Temple hosted 75 people at the beautiful home of Eddia and Moji Mirharooni for Einstein and the Rabbi, a conversation between author Rabbi Naomi Levy and Angella Nazarian. The conversation centered upon the book’s core theme- exploration of the meaning and purpose of the soul, inspired by famous correspondences between Albert Einstein and a grieving rabbi. The evening concluded with a five minute spiritual meditation, led by Rabbi Levy. The group enjoyed a memorable evening of connection and stimulating conversation. Sinai Temple is proud of and inspired by the caliber of speakers we host, year after year. To learn…

On Sunday, February 10, all-star basketball player David Blu joined the Sinai Temple community and Rabbi Erez Sherman for a conversation about Jewish identity, determination and mindset in professional and competitive sports. David, a Maccabi Tel Aviv champ, is an LA native who was born to an African American father and a Jewish mother. He has two rules in life, “Be happy and be humble.” Playing around the world and specifically in Israel, David witnessed “a country surrounded by enemies, [where] basketball was a way to bring people together.” This experience provided him with great perspective and a strong sense…
